Motorcycle Wreck in Washington County, Maryland Sends One to Shock Trauma

Emergency crews Halfway Fire Company and Maugansville responded out for a Motorcycle accident on Interstate 81 at Exit 5.

Halfway, MD- Emergency crews Halfway Fire Company and Maugansville responded out for a Motorcycle accident on Interstate 81 at Exit 5.

Crews were dispatched out at 19:05 hours for the accident Saturday evening. Halfway Fire Company Assistant Chief Dattillio was the first to arrive on scene.

Assistant Chief Dattillio reported a Priority 1 patient on the scene. Upon the Paramedic arrival and evaluation of the patient, Trooper 3 out of MSP Aviation Division was requested to respond. The patient had signs and symptoms that coincide with spinal injuries. Paramedic on the scene consulted with Medical Command and Shock Trauma and received permission to have the patient flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

While Halfway Fire tended to the motorcycle accident victim, Maugansville Fire and Community Rescue Services 75-9 out of Maugansville tended to a second accident a quarter mile prior to the motorcycle accident. Crews from CRS 75-9 transported one patient in from that accident to Washington County Trauma Center for check-up.

Interstate 81 was shut down south bound for nearly an hour while emergency crews tended to both accidents. On land of Interstate 81 was able to be re-opened by MSP once Trooper 3 was airborne and enroot to Shock Trauma at 20:01 hour. Fire Department crews were on scene for a short period once all patients from both accidents were transported.
