The Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 7518 Short Tail Springs Road. Within minutes of the alarm a first unit was on the scene reporting the house to be 50% involved with fire.

Crews quickly started attacking the blaze with inch and three quarter hand lines while other firefighters worked to establish a water supply. There were some tense moments while firefighters worked to keep flames from reaching a large propane tank beside the house.

Mutual Aid was requested from the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department to assist with a tanker shuttle to keep a sufficient water supply to battle the flames. It quickly became obvious that the flames were too intense to attempt an interior attack.

The fire was brought under control after about an hour, but not before the flames had totally destroyed the home. Luckily the family of two parents and three children made it out of the house without injury. The Red Cross was called to help the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
