The St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department was to lead the Krew of Sarita's Mexican Mardi Gras Parade on Sunday around 2 p.m.

While the parade was lining up to start, the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department got a call of a working house fire on Riverhighlands Drive.

Chief James LeBlanc advised his two volunteer firefighters to respond.

They found a two-story house on fire.

"We had neighbors from all over Riverhighlands Drive helping us pull hoses and fight the fire, " stated LeBlanc.

Firefighter Shane Rojas, who just joined the department three days ago, was operating the fire truck that was providing the water.

"If we are not on Riverhighlands Drive at the time this call comes through, we lose this entire structure and possibly the home next to it, " stated LeBlanc. "Again a classic case of being at the right place at the right time.
