On Monday, Feb. 14, at about 4 p.m. Stations One, Two and Three of the Hillsville Vol. Fire Department responded to a structure and brush fire.

Witness Tommy Briggs went to check on his cattle on McGhee Road in Carroll County when he spotted a small barn on fire. He reported that the electric wire over the building had been rubbing against the roof for some time, which may have been the cause of the fire.

By the time he called 911, the wind had pushed the fire up the field, into an abandoned home and into another field.

The land owner was not there at the time. Several acres and buildings were destroyed by the fire.

No injuries were reported
