Just before noon on Feb. 1, the Colorado Springs Fire Department battled a two-alarm structure fire in sub-zero temperatures.
The crew of Engine 2 found smoke and flames coming from the "A" side of a single-family dwelling.
A working structure fire assignment was declared. Shortly thereafter, District 1 Chief requested a second-alarm due to the severe temperature.
The fire started in the basement when a worker, renovating the house, was thawing pipes with a torch.
During the fire, Engine 2 suffered some mechanical failure and Reserve Engine 1 took over water supply duties.
No injuries were reported.
