On Saturday, Jan.29, a head-on collision sent five local St. Amant residents to local hospitals, stated Chief Officer James E. LeBlanc.

The crash took place on Hwy 22 near Hwy 936 in the St. Amant community.

Members of the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department had to use extrication tools to free one of the injured. The patient was taken from the scene by Acadian Ambulance Air Med.

The St. Amant resident sustained life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

The second vehicle carried three small children strapped in their car seats. Witnesses saw this vehicle with the small children flip at least three to four times.

This St. Amant wreck was proof that babies can survive if properly buckled in the car seats, stated LeBlanc.

The babies did not suffer major injury due to being properly strapped and positioned in their vehicle.

The wreck was worked by St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police and Acadian Ambulance ground and air units.
