A Portland police officer was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene of an apartment fire on Dec. 31.
At 3 p.m., Portland Fire, responded to an apartment fire at 1640 SE 162nd Ave. The dispatch included E7, E31, T7, C3, C4, Gresham E74, E71, T71.
Pushed by a stiff breeze, heavy fire was showing from two rooms on the second-floor.
The crew from Engine 7 stretched a two-and-a-half inch line to the stairwell, while personnel from Truck 7 laddered the roof.
Once the line was charged, the fire was quickly knocked without extension to the attic and other apartments.
An adjacent nursing home was partially evacuated as a precaution.
A police officer was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No occupants were injured, but one family was displaced.
Due to the nearly complete damage in the fire rooms, a cause has not yet been established.
