Virginia Crews Battle Wind and Flames

At about 11 a.m. on Dec. 26, Fairfax County 911 center got a report of a large commercial structure fire in the area of the Public Storage facility located in the 2900 block of Centerville Road.Crews on Engine 436 and Tower 436 found heavy smoke and fire coming from sides B, C, D of the main building in the complex.They asked that a second-alarm be put on the road including the mobile command unit and the rehab unit.There was a collapse of the second floor. All personnel were pulled out, and ladder pipes were set up.

Crews on Engine 436 and Tower 436 found heavy smoke and fire coming from sides B, C, D of the main building in the complex.

They asked that a second-alarm be put on the road including the mobile command unit and the rehab unit.

There was a collapse of the second floor. All personnel were pulled out, and ladder pipes were set up.

The fire was fought for over three hours before it was brought under control.

High winds were a factor in the fire. The cause is under investigation.
