Bus Wreck Handled in N.C.

  CARY, NC - On Monday, Dec. 20, three school activity buses collided in a chain-reaction crash on eastbound Highway 64 at Edinburgh Drive.The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Occupants on the bus included about 113 eighth-graders on a field trip from Asheboro, N.C.The Cary Fire Department responded with two engines, one ladder, one rescue, two battalion chiefs, a safety officer, and a deputy chief.

CARY, NC - On Monday, Dec. 20, three school activity buses collided in a chain-reaction crash on eastbound Highway 64 at Edinburgh Drive.

The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Occupants on the bus included about 113 eighth-graders on a field trip from Asheboro, N.C.

The Cary Fire Department responded with two engines, one ladder, one rescue, two battalion chiefs, a safety officer, and a deputy chief.

A second-alarm EMS response was dispatched. Fourteen ambulances responded from Cary EMS, Apex EMS, Wake County EMS, and Six Forks EMS. Additional resources included four EMS district chiefs, one Advanced Practice Paramedic unit, one EMS chief, one deputy medical directory, and a medical evacuation bus.

Thirty-six patients were transported with minor injuries. Other occupants of the buses were walked in groups to a nearby hotel for shelter.
