Civilian Killed, Two N.J. Firefighters Injured

  One person was killed, and two firefighters were injured Dec. 19 at an apartment fire in Maple Shade, N.J.Crews got the call about 7:30 p.m. at the Maple Terrace Apartments On Rudderow. Crews found heavy fire conditions in the building as well as a report of an occupant missing. They set up for defensive operations. The second alarm was struck.

Crews found heavy fire conditions in the building as well as a report of an occupant missing.

They set up for defensive operations. The second alarm was struck.

Crews remained in defensive operations as truck companies operated with ladder pipes. Multiple two-and-a-half inch hand lines were placed in operation. A third alarm was sounded.

Two firefighters were treated and transported to an area hospital.

A total of 50 occupants were displaced from the building.

The fire was reported to have started on the first floor of the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced occupants.
