At 6:34 pm, on June 6th, the City of Virginia, Minnesota Fire Department was dispatched to 705 6th street north for a call of heavy smoke from a building.

Engine one under the command of Assistant Chief Jim Theodore responded and advised heavy smoke showing from a commercial storage building at that location.

Chief Theodore called for dispatch of Virginia Ladder One and mutual aid from nearby Mountain Iron for manpower and Eveleth Fire Rescue for a RIT team.

An external surpressive attack was initiated as entry teams were assembled for interior attack. A forced entry was performed on each end of the building and the fire quickly knocked down.

The warehouse, thought to contain tires or other hazerdous material was found to only be storage for garage doors and construction materials.

Units remained on scene for several hours in overhaul and an investigation is underway.
