Rochester Firefighters responded to Tryon Park for a marsh fire last evening.

The dry conditions have dried out normal wetland areas and raised the level of fire risk.

The first company on location reported a large marsh fire and requested Several Back-up companies to include the Battalion 3 command.

The fire was burning in a remote area with no vehicle access and little foot access. When Battalion 3 arrived he then requested extra man power due to the very remote location.

Mutual aid came from West Webster, Webster, Penfield, Laurelton, Brighton, & Ridge Culver Volunteer Fire Departments.

Area residents of Tryon Park aided by "loaning" buckets for a "Bucket Brigade".

Portable pumps & generators, 400' of 1 3/4" hose & hand tools were carried in 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile into the marsh area.

The fire was under control in about two hours. The Red Cross was also called for rehab.
