Vacant Warehouse Burns in Philly

  On Sunday Nov. 28, at 2:46 p.m. a building fire was dispatched on the 1100 block of O'Neil St. in Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. The crew of Engine 29 reported heavy fire conditions in a single-story vacant warehouse. They added they had a 100x140 vacant warehouse with heavy fire conditions, placing all hands in service and requesting a second-alarm. Companies set up for defensive operations as the occupied exposure apartments were evacuated. Command sounded the third-alarm.

On Sunday Nov. 28, at 2:46 p.m. a building fire was dispatched on the 1100 block of O'Neil St. in Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia.

The crew of Engine 29 reported heavy fire conditions in a single-story vacant warehouse.

They added they had a 100x140 vacant warehouse with heavy fire conditions, placing all hands in service and requesting a second-alarm.

Companies set up for defensive operations as the occupied exposure apartments were evacuated. Command sounded the third-alarm.

Companies secured water supplies and surrounded the building with ladder pipes and hand lines.

One civilian was transported to an area hospital after being injured evacuating the apartment. A total of 28 pieces of apparatus and 100 firefighters were called to battle the blaze.

Twelve exposures were evacuated during the fire.

The fire was brought under control in about 75 minutes. Crews remained on location well into the night.

The building was set to be demolished the following week.

The American Red Cross assisted the displaced residents from the exposures.
