Structure Fire in Briarcliff Manor, New York

Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighter Jeffrey Bassett, 16, spotted a structure fire in progress in Briarcliff Manor.

Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighter Jeffrey Bassett, 16, spotted a structure fire in progress at 135 Apple Lane, Briarcliff Manor, while on his way to Ossining High School this morning.

He called 911 on his cell phone.

Bassett is credited with rescuing a 70 year old resident from the burning house who was unable to escape the flames. The resident who sustained second degree burns and smoke inhalation was transported to the Westchester Medical Center Burn Unit for treatment and is expected to recover fully.

Firefighters arriving on location were confronted with heavy fire on the second floor, and were able to quickly extinguish the flames with assistance from neighboring Ossining and Croton Volunteer Fire Departments.

The one family building sustained heavy fire damage.
