On the morning of Oct. 30, the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department conducted training and a live burn on a century-old house.
The owner of the structure allowed us to conduct bail out training, interior breeching, and finally burn the structure to the ground.
Due to the age of the structure, it was not safe to conduct live burn training inside the structure.
So, SVFD practiced defensive operations on a couple of out buildings behind the house; and the main house that the owners live in.
The day was a great experience for not only the seasoned firefighters, but the three junior members that were in attendance as well.
