DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- One person was killed and another seriously injured in a multi-car crash on I-95 just after 8pm in Daytona Beach on Oct. 18.

Daytona Beach Fire Department units responded to mile marker 265 southbound I-95, just north of LPGA Boulevard, for a motor vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment.

Witnesses on scene state that a mid-size sedan was travelling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a pickup truck causing the truck to rollover several times before coming to rest on top of the guardrail in the median.

The driver of the mid-size sedan could not regain control of the vehicle and hit a steal column before coming to rest in the grassy shoulder of the road.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead on scene by DBFD paramedics. The passenger of the sedan was extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel before being transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the pick-up truck walked away from the accident with no injuries.

The crash is under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol and Daytona Beach Police Department.
