The Bloomfield Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on Saturday March 8, 2003 at 09:10 Hours. The address of the fire was 41 Bay Avenue near the corner of Broughton Avenue.

Fire units arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the first floor rear and exposure 4 side of an occupied 1 1/2 story woodframe dwelling. Radiant heat from the heavy fire caused damage to the vinyl siding of a house on Broughton Ave. near the exposure 3 and 4 side of the fire building.

One fireman suffered burns to the head and neck area from a flahover and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The fire was brought under control with little extension to the rest of the house by 20 firefighters manning 6 pieces of apparatus in about 30 minutes.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation. The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. A dog was rescued by firefighters. Damage was kept to the first floor rear and the exposure 4 side of the house.
