Members of the Yantic Fire Engine Co # 1 in Connecticut responded to Interstate 395 southbound on Saturday, March 29, 2003, for a person with a head injury.

Upon arrival the crew noticed the driver of the SUV had struck a large wild turkey. Remarkably the driver sustained only minor cuts to his face, he was transported to the hospital.

Unfortunately the wild turkey met his demise. The incident drew the attention of all the passing motorists. Traffic in the northbound and southbound lanes was slowed in the area of the accident for approximately 1 hour.
