South Metro Fire and Rescue Department along with Littleton Fire and West Metro Fire responded to a train fire, at the Big Lift rail facility, south of Littleton and north of Sedalia, Colorado.

A southbound BNSF merchandise train noticed smoke coming from several open top hopper cars and determined several carloads of wood chips were on fire.

The train then pulled to the Big Lift rail facility where firefighters had access to the train.

Carloads of wood chips were burning, though the fire did not extend deep into the chip pile, and thus was relatively easy to put out.

A tender shuttle water supply was put into use, with tenders from West Douglas Fire as well as Jackson 105 fire assisting with water supply.

One Littleton aerial was in use.
