Just after 12:30 p.m., units from the Long Beach Fire Department were called to the Long Beach Airport to a report of a downed helicopter.
They found a small Robinson R-22 helicopter on its side. In the helicopter were a 24-year-old instructor and a student pilot who appeared to be in his 20s.
It was reported that the helicopter was only five or six feet off of the ground at the time of the crash.
The student suffered moderate injuries and the instructor’s injuries were minor. Both were transported to a local hospital.
Emergency responders quickly contained a small oil and fuel leak.
