Virginia Beach, Virginia firefighters were dispatched to a reported car fire in the 1300 block of London Bridge Road on March 31, 2003, sending Engine 3. Fire Inspector 10 (author) was riding by the address and was about to report the fire as it was toned out. Inspector 10 advised Dispatch that the vehicle was a fully involved moving truck and was threatening an adjacent building and requested a full alarm assignment. The dispatcher then sent Engine 5, Engine 18, Ladder 16, Haz Mat 1 and Battalions 3 and 4. US NAVY Engine 54 from the Oceana Naval Base was standing by as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

Once on scene, firefighters from Engine 3 advanced an inch and three quarters hand line to the burning truck to begin knocking the fire down. Additional crews were sent into the building to check for exposure concerns as another crew began the task of extinguishing the remaining fire.

No injuries were reported and the fire is still under investigation. Public Information Officer Chief Mike Wade was on scene answering questions for the local media.
