On April 27, 2005 the Telluride Fire Department and EMS personnel responded to a report of a roll over accident with entrapment on Hwy 145.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the semi was carrying approximately 50,000 pounds of silica sand and the driver was pined between the guardrail, the dash, and steering wheel.

Before any extrication operations took place, several houses, approximately 75 feet below the trailer, were evacuated.

The trailer was hanging over the edge of a roughly 70 degree slope.

Firefighters along with paramedics worked for 45 minutes to extricate the driver who was transported to the Telluride Medical Center for treatment.

Injuries sustained were several broken ribs.
