The Liberty, New York Fire Department Battles Hotel Blaze

On 05/09/05 at 4:30 am, The Liberty Fire Department in Liberty, New York received an alarm for an unknown type fire.

On 05/09/05 at 4:30 am, The Liberty Fire Department in Liberty, New York received an alarm for an unknown type fire.

The sleeping neighbor woke up to crackling sounds and looked out the window to see flames.

Upon arrival of the fire department, the multi-story abandoned hotel was fully involved. A two-story section of the hotel was already on the ground.

A defensive operation was establish in an effort to prevent the flying embers from the four-story section from starting brush fires.

Interestingly, the owner of the former hotel recently approached the fire department to have the department conduct a controlled burn. The owner was advised certain preparations needed to be made first such as removing asbestos.

The fire has been labeled suspicious.
