Around 9 p.m. Thursday night a call was placed into Gloucester County dispatch for the report of a house fire on Woodlawn Ave, in the town. The station, squad and 1st due companies were dispatched into the job.

Police were on location reporting explosions from inside the residence and confirming a working fire. E-811, 812 and Squad 891 responded and arrived to find a 1 story residential wood frame, fully involved.

The FAST team (Deptford 9-2) was then dispatched. Chief Dennis Kappler (800) assumed command and A/C M. Gismondi (802) assumed Operations. PSE&G was called to secure the electric and gas.

The crews from 8 and 6-2 made a good knock down of the fire. 800 requested a call to be made to the borough to request the use of their backhoe for overhaul of the dwelling. The crews worked with hand tools and two 1? hand lines to knock out the hot spots of the dwelling, which was now fully collapsed, until the backhoe got on location.

The canteen from Deptford was called in to assist in the rehab of the firefighters. Westville Engine Co. 731 covered the 8 house. The fire was placed under control around 11:30 p.m. and the last engine left the scene at 12:20 a.m.
