On March 21, 2005, units from the City of Baltimore Fire Department responded to a reported spill at S.Ponca Street, near Holibird Avevue.

Upon arrival, they found a roofing material manufacturing plant had a tank rupture, spilling 45,000 gallons of liquid asphalt within the plant.

To complicate the matter, the asphalt ignited and began to burn.

Firefighters along with plant personnel were able to control within an hour.

The spill was fortunately contained with the "spill dikes" surrounding the tanks.
