At approximately 0200 hours, on March 22, 2005, members of the Marion, Indiana Fire Department were dispatched to a possible structure fire in a mobile home community.
Responding units included: Fire 2, Fire 10, Fire 14, Rescue 1, Pump 2 and Pump 5. At the time of dispatch it was not known if the dwelling was occupied or not, so an Able unit (medic) was also dispatched from the hospital.
Upon arrival, Pump 2 discovered a fully involved structure. Notifying dispatch that they were going to begin the attack, and requested that the next unit in hit the hydrant on the corner.
After the Incident Commander (Fire 2) arrived, three seperate crews set out to contain the blaze. It was determined that the residence was unoccupied.
One crew attempted entry through the front door to gain a knock down position from the inside, while the other two crews attempted to contain the other exposures protecting the neighbor mobile homes.
Good teamwork and positive training enabled the Marion Fire Department to contain and control the blaze in about 30 minutes. Within 90 minutes the blaze was extinguished and the overhaul complete.
At the time of this posting, the monetary loss was unknown, and the investigative team was still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
There were no injuries, civilian or departmental.
