Florida Firefighters Battle Silo Fire

Early on July 14, an Ocala police officer driving in the area noticed smoke billowing from a silo in a manufacturing facility, and notified Ocala Fire Rescue.At 3:06 a.m., seventeen firefighters responded to the former U.S.P.L. facility located at 1909 Northeast 25th Avenue. Firefighters found smoke coming from a silo 60 feet tall filled with sawdust.

At 3:06 a.m., seventeen firefighters responded to the former U.S.P.L. facility located at 1909 Northeast 25th Avenue. Firefighters found smoke coming from a silo 60 feet tall filled with sawdust.

Firefighters placed a ladder against the silo and utilized several hose lines to extinguish the blaze. The manufacturing facility had been closed for more than a year, and it has not been determined what ignited the fire.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours. There were no injuries.
