Springfield, Massachusetts firefighters battled a blaze under frigid conditions at 72-74 Westford Circle just before 4 PM on Tuesday, March 9, 2005. A stove left unattended on the second floor caused the fire that left two families homeless.

The high wind conditions complicated suppression efforts with one exposure less than 20 feet away. Firefighters under the command of District Chief Philip Costello were able to contain the flames to the original structure.

Although initial reports indicated that the second floor was occupied, there were no injuries reported in this fire that caused an estimated $200,000 damage to the two family home.
