Feb. 11, 2003
Units quickly knocked a house fire in suburban Maryland Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday, February 10, units from Hyattsville, Maryland (Prince George's County) and the surrounding area were dispatched to 3121 Lancer Place for a reported house fire.

Engines 11 and 12, Truck 1 and Chief 1A responded with 15 personnel.

Units arrived with heavy fire conditions in the living room and kitchen. Truck 1 arrived behind the first pumper from Hyattsville, gained entry to the house and began a primary search.

Engine 1 stretched an attack line and started to knock the fire on the first floor. The bulk of the fire was contained within minutes.

The crew from the truck and second HVFD pumper opened up and checked for extension on the second floor.

Units from the HVFD and Chillum-Adelphi cleared in approximately two hours.

Engine Companies 44 (Chillum) and 3 (Mount Rainier), Truck 34 (Chillum-Adelphi), Rescue Squad 2 (Cottage City) and Battalion Chief 8A responded on the first alarm and operated on the fireground. Medic 3 (PGFD/Mount Rainer) and Ambulance 139 (Riverdale Heights) were on the Working Fire Dispatch assignment.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Preliminary damage estimates were in excess of $50,000.
