On the morning of January 26th, 2003, a fire occurred at approximately 04:15 A.M. in a two story taxpayer style building. The building housed a bar on the first floor and three apartments on the second floor.

This fire eventually went to a third alarm bringing in mutual aid companies from the Wilson Fire District(of Windsor), Blue Hills, Bloomfield Center, South Windsor, Windsor Locks, and East Granby.

The pictures depict Windsor Ladder 2 setting up the vent the roof. Soon after the crew from that Company ascended the ladder they quickly descended as can be seen in second photo after the roof began to fail.

It took firefighters close to two hours to fully contain and extinguish the fire. Upon further investigation the cause of the fire was deemed to be electrical in nature. The fire had started in the attic and was not noticed by anyone until in began to drop down. This gave the fire a considerable jump ahead in the attic before it was noticed leading to extensive damage to the attic area.

Also, the building's fire alarm system is credited with alerting the tenants to egress from the building before the fire department's arrival.
