Texas Firefighters Rescue Elderly Woman

Firefighters rescued an 82 year-old woman as fire raged in the apartment next to hers early Sunday morning.

The 2-alarm fire at the Taj Mahal apartments in the 2600 block of Merrick Street, broke out about 2 a.m. Firefighters found heavy fire on arrival and located the elderly woman in the smoked filled apartment next to the fire apartment.

The woman was treated by Medstar crews at the scene and suffered minor injuries.

The fire, before it was contained, gutted two apartments. Several other units suffered extensive damage.
