On January 26, 2003 the Peoria Fire Department, Peoria, Illinois, was called to a report of a fire at a local tavern.
Four patrons were alerted to the fire by a passing police officer who noticed the smoke pushing out the unoccupied apartment above the tavern.
At 15:19 the first units arrived to find a deep seated working structure fire in the second floor apartment, a second alarm was sounded soon after.
Thirty minutes into the fire, crews were pulled out due to a flash-over condition in the apartment. A defensive attack was mounted to knock down the high volume of fire.
The fire was brought under control and lines were being picked up at 17:20. No civilians were injured, but due to the cold weather icing a firefighter was injured during overhaul.
