At around 7:15 on Monday January 20, 2003 the Williampsort Bureau of Fire was alerted for a structure fire at the intersection of High and Elmira Streets. Crews went on the scene with smoke showing from a 3 story apartment building and went to work. Crews were met with a moderate smoke on condition on the first floor.

As the first in crews searched they found fire in the ceiling of several first floor apartments. As more manpower arrived on scene crews attempted to access the second floor. Crews on the second floor had very little time to work when building evacuation was sounded at approx. 7:45. Evacuation was ordered when exterior walls began to show signs of collapse.

With all fire fighters out of building safely, 3 aerial master streams and several other lines were put into service to protect two exposures.

The Williamsport Bureau of Fire was aided by additional units from South Williamsport, Montgomery, Jersey Shore, Old Lycoming Twp, Hepburnville and Loyalsock Twp. 20 people were displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported. The building was a total loss.
