National Park Fire Department, Station 8-1, was dispatched at 02:34 a.m. for a reported house fire on Riverview Ave.

Assistant Chief Terry Gismondi (803) responded and was advised that police were on location reporting a working fire.

803 then arrived to a fully involved 2 and a half story wood frame abandoned dwelling, with heavy fire. Engine 811 arrived and went into service with a 2 1/2" line, and an Engine from Verga Fire Company stretched two 1 3/4" lines.

Assistant Chief Gismondi then requested a station response out of the Westville Fire Department 7-3. Engine Company 731 arrived and started a draft along the river due to the lack of water supply on Riverview Ave. After the draft was established Engine Company 731 and Ladder Company 736 assisted with fire suppression and overhaul.

Crews made a quick knock-down and were clearing the scene 2 and a half hours later.

The next day, 8-1 crews were dispatched back out to the house 2 times for piles of rubbish still smoldering, and re-kindling.
