Gastonia, N.C. Firefighters Battle Mill Fire

 The Gastonia Fire Department responded to a commercial fire in a building that used to be a mill shortly after midnight on Thursday, May 6.The firefighters found heavy smoke and fire conditions and upgraded the incident to a two-alarm fire. The spread of the fire was stopped at the fire wall built into the middle of the building. This structure had not been used as a mill for several years. There were cars being stored in the building at the time of the fire.

The firefighters found heavy smoke and fire conditions and upgraded the incident to a two-alarm fire. The spread of the fire was stopped at the fire wall built into the middle of the building.

This structure had not been used as a mill for several years. There were cars being stored in the building at the time of the fire.

The Gastonia Fire Department responded with four engine companies, three ladder companies, one heavy rescue company and two battalion chiefs. Crews were on scene for nearly five hours.

The estimated damage to the building and contents was $500,000.

The fire is being investigated by the Gastonia Fire Department.
