A motor vehicle accident outside Birney Elementary School prompted a fast response by DC Fire & EMS units.

Rescue Squad 1 extricated an adult female from a Pontiac 6000-L. She was the mostly seriously injured of seven patients, including four young children.

The accident happened about 3:30 PM in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr., Ave., SE. The cause of the two-car accident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Medics examined all seven patients and transported five. The caretaker of two children elected to take them per his own vehicle.
