Camden, NJ Bravest Fight Scrap Metal Blaze

On December 30, 2002 the Camden Rescue Co 1 was returning to there station, after leaving a working house fire in North Camden.

On December 30, 2002 the Camden Rescue Co 1 was returning to there station, after leaving a working house fire in North Camden. Captain Dave Dilks saw a large column of smoke about 2 blocks from there Liberty Street Fire Station.

He call Fire Radio to send an engine company to the area of 6th and Atlantic to investigate the smoke.

As Rescue 1 turned onto South 6th Streeet they saw heavy fire coming from a Scrap Metal Company.

Captain Dilks asked that the box be filled for a working fire. A large pile of scrap metal chips 2 to 3 stories high 75 x100 was on fire.

Battalion Chief Joe Rossi arrived on the scene. The chief put a special call in for Tower Ladder 1.

Companies were laying 4 inch lines. Two hand lines were placed in service to knock down the fire as ladder 1 set up.

Chief Rossi placed the fire under control in about 25 minutes.
