On January 2, 2003, at 5:05 pm, the Keene VFD was dispatched to a wreck with a person trapped in a vehicle on FM2280, three miles north of town.
The Keene ambulance was first on the scene reporting a two vehicle head-on crash with two critical injuries and all victims out of vehicles. CareFlight was requested, one coming from Fort Worth and one from Dallas, which airlifted the man and woman from the IROC-Z to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
Driver and passenger of black IROC-Z were arguing and swerved directly in front of red vehicle. There were no skid marks at the scene. Impact was estimated at 120 to 130 mph.
Keene VFD, Keene PD, Texas State Troopers, Johnson County Sheriff's Officers, Joshua VFD Rescue, Keene Ambulance, and two AMR ambulances responded.
