A Rural/Metro ambulance crew came across a house fire Monday, April 19 in the early morning.

The fire department dispatched Engines 16 and 17, Quint 7/Midi 7, Rescue 11, Battalion 1 and Car 99 (safety officer) at 2:07 a.m.

Crews found heavy fire from a 1 1/2-story dwelling. The fire was also impinging on the exposure. Engine 17 ordered an immediate exterior attack and ordered companies to protect the exposures. The home was reported to be vacant.

Quint 6/Mid 6 were dispatched as the rapid intervention company, and the protectives and deputy chief were also assigned to respond.

Crews deployed several handlines to protect one home, less than 10 feet away. A portable master stream was also positioned in front of the structure to deliver a heavy water flow as the house was quickly consumed by fire.

Battalion 1 requested an additional company and Engine 1 was dispatched.

The fire was knocked within about 20 minutes.
