Miss. Firefighters Attack Apartment Fire

April 8, 2010
A 6 p.m.

A 6 p.m. fire erupted Tues., April 6 in foliage along the side of a two-story, eight-unit apartment building. The fire quickly spread up the vinyl siding and engulfed the attic and roof.  A rather brisk wind spread the fire, and three buildings were destroyed and four damaged.  Two aerial ladders and 19 other units, pumpers and tankers, responded and fought the fire.  Portable tanks and a tanker shuttle were employed to augment city water supplies.  There were no injuries, but about 75 people were displaced.  This was the largest fire in the Starkville area since a 1959 dormitory fire on the Mississippi State University campus.
