St. Augustine, Fl – A fire that was initially reported as a small grass fire behind the residences on E. Watson Road on Tuesday grew into a large woods fire, burning as much as five acres before it was contained.
Firefighters from St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the fire around 3:30 p.m. and requested tractors from the Florida Division of Forestry, as access was limited and the size of the fire dictated the need for a fire line to be quickly cut near the head of the fire.
The fire was brought under control at about 5:00 p.m. Responding units included Squad 5, Engine 11, Engine 8, Battalion 2, Fl DOF and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department. No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze and the fire was contained without damage to the homes in the area.
