On, Monday, December 9, 2002, a teen tossing clothes on a kerosene heater destroyed a 2-story dwelling.

The fire originated in the basement, and the fire extended to all levels via the balloon construction.

Brandon Fire crews from Ortonville, Michigan entered the basement and first floor.

The first floor crew only made it 10 feet into the structure when the floor gave way sending 1 firefighter head first into the basement.

The firefighters partner pulled him back, and the back-up crew removed him from the structure.

The firefighter was transported to the hospital with only minor injuries, was released and returned that night to the station for duty.
