On December 12th at approximately 10:30 am Savannah firefighters were dispatched to 900 West River Street, The Georgia Ports Authority for a cargo ship fire.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke showing was reported.
Firefighters quickly began an interior attack.
The fire was brought under control in just under two hours.
Units remained on scene for a few more hours to overhaul.
The extreme heat of the blaze and confined space made firefighting efforts difficult.
The heat also caused paint to peel from the bulkheads and sides of the ship.
Tugboats were called in to use their deck guns to douse the exterior.
No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard is still investigating the cause of this fire.
