Baltimore Crews Battle 5-Alarm Warehouse Fire

At approximately 6 a.m. on Feb. 21, Baltimore City Fire Department units were alerted for a reported building fire in the area of Interstate 83 and Union Avenue, in the city's Clipper Mill/Hampden area. BCFD Engine 21 arrived at a large warehouse/industrial type building in the 1700 block of Union Avenue, approximately 100 x 300 and multiple floors, with heavy fire and smoke showing.

At approximately 6 a.m. on Feb. 21, Baltimore City Fire Department units were alerted for a reported building fire in the area of Interstate 83 and Union Avenue, in the city's Clipper Mill/Hampden area.

BCFD Engine 21 arrived at a large warehouse/industrial type building in the 1700 block of Union Avenue, approximately 100 x 300 and multiple floors, with heavy fire and smoke showing.

Command ordered exterior/defensive operations, and struck 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th alarms. Crews were hampered by limited water availability and difficult access.

At least five ladder pipes and several deck guns were used and firefighters operated on the southbound travel lanes of I-83.
