Vacant House Fire Contained in N.C.

The Gastonia Fire Department responded to this structure fire at 7 a.m. Thursday on Westbrook Circle.
The Gastonia Fire Department responded to this structure fire at 7 a.m. Thursday on Westbrook Circle. Firefighters saw moderate  smoke showing from the roof. Entry to the residence was made through the front door. However, firefighters quickly noticed the spongy feel of the floor, a sign that the floor may be compromised and may collapse. They retreated to gain entrance through a carport door. The cause of the soft floor was discovered when they found fire in the crawl space beneath the main floor of the residence. Once the fire was located, it was extinguished without further damage to the house.There was an estimated $30,000 in damages to the house. There were no injuries.The house is vacant and for sale. The cause of the fire is being investigated by The Gastonia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
