Wilmington, Delaware Firefighters Train in Swift, Cold Waters

Wilmington FD is conducting ongoing training to test new dry suits that are used in swift and cold water rescue work.

On Tuesday, December 10 in the Brandywine River at The Franklin Street Falls (in the area of the swinging bridge), the Wilmington Fire Department conducted ongoing training to test new dry suits that are used in Swift and Cold Water Rescue work.

Firefighters also trained to experience the effects of the actual climate while wearing the equipment.

The training was conducted by Battalion Chief Michael Donohue.

The companies that participated were Engine 1, Engine 4, and Rescue Squad 1.

The training was done with the water temperature being in the area of 37 degrees F. and the air temperature being 20 degrees F.
