Fire Destoys 150-Year-Old Bridgeport, West Virginia Residence

On January 5, 2005 at about 10:25 PM, the Bridgeport Fire Department of West Virginia responded to a reported working structure fire, at 304 Holt Street.

On January 5, 2005 at about 10:25 PM, the Bridgeport Fire Department of West Virginia responded to a reported working structure fire, at 304 Holt Street.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the historic two-story residence with heavy fire in the rear and second floor.

Crews were informed that an elderly subject may have been trapped in the second floor bedroom. While the initial attack crew contained the blaze, a second crew used ground ladders to enter the second floor bedroom. A primary search was performed with negative results. It was later learned the women was not home at the time of the incident.

The fire remains under investigation by the Bridgeport Fire Department and the West Virginia State Fire Marshals Office.
