Firefighters Battle Chicago Factory Fire

Water was somewhat sparse at the far reaches of the complex. Numerous engines had to lead out in an "in-line" operation.

A spectacular fire destroyed a large factory complex on Chicago's far west side on Monday, December 1, 2002.

The fire ocurred at 1819 N Monitor and involved a 1 and 2 story multi truss factory complex.

Access was severely limited and difficult due to the proximity of railroad property and small streets in the surrounding residental area.

Water was somewhat sparse at the far reaches of the complex. Numerous engines had to lead out in an "in-line" operation.

The CFD also placed in service its new RIT concept by positioning a fully equipped truck company and battalion chief in sector 1. The fire was eventually contained using 2 tower ladders, 2 snorkels, 2 ladder pipes, numerous deck guns andhandline.

A 4-11 nets a response of 16 engines, 4 trucks, 2 tower ladders, a heavy rescue and numerous chief officers and ancilliary equipment.
