3 Killed in Rockville, Maryland Garage Collapse

Units arrived on the scene and encountered a large unfinished concrete parking structure, under construction, that had collapsed.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2002 units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) were dispatched for the report of a partial building collapse on Fishers Lane near Twinbrook Parkway at the Fishers Place Project, in Rockville.

Units arrived on the scene and encountered a large unfinished concrete parking structure, under construction, that had collapsed. Workers told fire fighters and rescuers that four persons were still trapped. Additional units and personnel were dispatched to assist. An equivalent of a Second Alarm was sent.

Units from Rockville, Kensington and the surrounding areas responded to the call along with members of the Collapse Rescue Team. Eventually about 125 fire and rescue personnel, including over 60 members of the MCFRS Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, would arrive on the scene, including 9 engines (4 medic), 4 medic units, 9 ambulances, 3 rescue squads, 6 trucks/towers, 2 canteen units, and numerous support units and command officers. Rockville Chief 3 was Incident Commander.

Rescuers immediately conducted a primary search and located and accounted for three of the four trapped workers
