Camden, New Jersey Firefighters Brave Freezing Weather Battling 3-Alarm Row Home Fire

Camden, New Jersey firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of Walnut Street in the South Camden section of the City shortly after 2 p.m. on December 27, 2004.

Camden, New Jersey firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of Walnut Street in the South Camden section of the City shortly after 2 p.m. on December 27, 2004. The temperature at that time was in the mid 20's.

The first arriving units reported that they had heavy fire showing from a two story frame dwelling in the middle of a row of twenty occupied and vacant homes.

A second alarm was quickly sounded along with a third alarm as firefighters battled to save the row.

The fire had extended to one occupied and two vacant dwellings. Two Tower Ladders were now setup and numerous hand lines were attacking this fast-moving blaze.

Truck Companies were able to open the roof up while firefighters were pulling ceilings to stop the spread of the fire.

Sixteen homes were saved, four were heavily damaged.
